Learning to sing gospel music is slightly different from learning to sing secular music (and don’t forget that the fact that a song has Jesus does not make it gospel), though both are still music. If it is gospel music, most of your singing are going to be live definitely and coming directly from a revelation base. In other words you can’t act gospel out, you are simply it.

Trends in Christian Clothing

Christian clothing has come a long way from the traditional apparel that the early Christians used to wear as a way to depict their Christianity. In the early days women used to wear long skirts or dresses and men attended church services in suits and ties. However, this has changed and there is a very big difference in the way Christians dress and portray their faith through their dressing.
The youth have always been known to set the fashion trends in any fashion industry and this is evident among Christians as well. Young Christians have embraced a variety of clothing that they can use to spread the message of Christ's love to the world as well as make a stand on what they believe in. The major feature in these clothes is that they either have a bible verse, scriptural references, Christian messages or pictures printed on them.
Men's Christian clothing
As in every kind of fashion there are particular clothes that are made particularly for men and others for women. This is also evident in Christian clothing with the men's wear section having a variety of garments that have Christian inscriptions or messages on them to allow the men to broadcast their faith in trendy outfits. These garments include hoodies, T-shirts, beanies, jackets, hats among others which come in different colors as well as designs.

Your mess is your message- Sarah Henson

Imagine you have a teenage daughter whom you dearly love, and one day she comes up to you and says, “Daddy, I am pregnant!”

How would you react? What would you do? Difficult to digest, isn’t it?

A Baby at 14yrs!

Well that’s exactly what happened to Bishop T. D. Jakes, one of the most influential preachers in the world, as his 14 year old daughter Sarah Henson broke this tragic news to him. Can you imagine the storm of questions that would be running on Bishop Jakes’ mind at that point in time:  How will I face the world? What would I tell my church? How could this happen to her?
Well, the good news is that the story doesn’t end here!
Here’s a video of Sarah’s testimony, you cannot afford to miss:
A good question to ask ourselves as we watch this video is, how do we handle the different kinds of mess that we face in our lives? Do we allow our circumstance to rule us? Do we backslide? Do we lose our joy, patience and love?

Guided Me Home

At present, Sarah oversees the women’s ministry at The Potter’s House of Dallas and is happily married to Robert Henson, a professional football player who is a linebacker in the NFL, they have two children.
Sarah recently wrote in a post titled “Guided Me Home” on her blog about how God used her situation to guide her back  “home,” in right relationship with God.
Here is an excerpt of how she puts it:
This is for you…You who chose to give up on your dream because you’re convinced the weight of your past will never outweigh the hope of your future. I just wanted to tell you something that I learned, something that remains true to this day….Find out who you are in Christ, allow him an invitation to live in the deepest darkest parts of your heart. When you know whose you are, you will without a doubt run into WHO you are. God doesn’t take into account the opinions of others before he decides whether or not to lend us grace.
God’s grace has seeped into the holes of crack houses, shelters, abortion clinics, jails, even the labor and delivery room of a 14 year old girl. God’s grace doesn’t consult the whispers’ of men because he knows their deepest, darkest secrets, as well. My life could have taken a detour that left me lost, but You saw fit to not just create a roadblock but also guided me home….
Dear GTH friend, you are not reading this by chance. Here is a word for you: “No matter how broken your lives pieces are, God can still make a masterpiece out of you, if only you could give him all the pieces.” Yes, you heard it right—No matter how bad your MESS is, your God is still capable and willing to turn it into a MESSAGE!
Let us know how this post blessed you and don’t forget to share it with your friends.

Singing tips: character of a good singing

The five tips to become a better singer written earlier on this blog were instructive tips to stare up passion to sing. In this article are few tips on voice exercise before singing. Everybody has their own blessed unique voice. What makes a voice better is the influence that is exacted on it. You don’t really need to feel bad if you think you are not sounding good. Just have a singing lofty ideal and keep at it. Know the skill of singing is also very important to be a better music minister.

Pre-singing Exercise
Not limited to this but proper breathing is the foundation of all singing and good posture is the only way to breathe properly. Breathe in through both the mouth and nose with the throat as open as possible to allow air to move quickly without a pronounced hissing sound.  When breathing in the stomach should move out and down and the chest should expand out, but the shoulders should not need to lift.  If you need to hold your breath before beginning to sing, leave the throat open and keep the air in the lungs by keeping the diaphragm and lower back muscles extended. Exercises like sit up, and jogging can help the breath control.

Singing voice
The singing voice has two registers commonly called the chest voice and the head voice (or falsetto). These registers are defined primarily by the configuration of the larynx and how the vocal fold vibrates the air passing through it. The references to a middle register actually refer to a blended tone from both the chest and head registers. The transition between chest voice and head voice is commonly called the break.  Lower notes are generally sung with the chest voice and higher notes are sung blended or in the head voice, but there will be a handful of notes that can be sung with either chest or head voice.  There is usually a marked difference in volume and tone of the chest and head voices in untrained singers, but training can smooth out the transition and create a blended range that makes the best use of both registers.

How to Singing
It’s nearly true that if you can talk you can sing but the difference is in some basic technicalities which singing will demand. Good Singing should be a smooth, relaxed process of vibrating and shaping the air you push from your lungs. Singing starts by opening your mouth to prepare to produce the starting vowel or consonant you wish to sing. The throat and oral cavity should be open and the vocal fold should be relaxed, as if you are just about to yawn.  Use the muscles in the diaphragm, abdomen and lower back to produce a consistent stream of air out of your lungs by engaging them smoothly and building to full pressure.  Fix the pitch you want to sing in your mind and then engage your vocal fold to produce it with as little neck muscle tightness as possible.  Listen carefully to tune the pitch and tone as you sing.  Use dynamics to give life to melodic lines and emphasis to lyrics. Use vocal ornamentation like slides, slurs and vibrato sparingly and only as required to properly interpret the song.

SECULAR MUSIC: DAILY RENEWAL OF MIND IS SOLUTION

You hear it at the salon, you hear it on the radio, if you are in some metropolis like my neighborhood, you will hear it in the taxi, you flip to browse the internet, and here they go. Profane secular music everywhere. You have to hear because you don’t go out with your ears blocked, or else you might end up in a crash which could have been avoided if you had heard…lol.

You will find that you happen to know everyone of the songs though you didn’t deliberately buy or get the Cds.
They call it BOMBARDMENT. In case you don’t know, bombardment is an act of hitting somebody repeatedly. It does not have to make sense as long as it is hitting you often. They bombard you with their hooks.
As faith comes by hearing, so fear also comes by the same. They force songs down your throat by making you here it everywhere. This strategy is now been adopted by some of the gospel artist around which is a good one. There is this guy in Nigeria who agreeably sings nonsense and he also said that himself.

Among many ways a man receives information are through the ear and mind. These two connect well and they collaborate to build up a stronghold on someone’s mind depending on what information is being transmitted through them. This stronghold drives such life.
Since you will still walk down the road every day, listen to local radio stations, take yourself to the saloon, do some other things and yet hear these songs, we need to have a way we strengthen our guide. For our progressive good life, I will give my little token of advice. Spend more time listening to song that can edify you, get good gospel song. They will serve peace and strength to your heart.

WHO CAN BE A PSALMIST?

Everyone (in Christ) should practice the act of singing psalm. It won’t cost you anything because you really don’t need to know much of music before you sing or write a psalm (if you can talk you can sing). First, a psalm is an inspired poem or song. Here I mean such is inspired by the Holy Ghost. I believe everyone should practice the act. A lot of things can inspire people to write and sing but psalms are Spirit inspired. A psalms is therefore given to comfort, encourage, edify and blesses. A psalm is a song that is born out of the spirit.
A psalmist is someone who practices the act of written inspired poem or song. It is not some set of people’s job.
The reason why I would say anybody could school their selves to practice the act of singing psalm is that is one of the modality of been filled with the Holy Ghost.
Ephesians 5:18-19 and be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and …making melody in your heart to the Lord;

The scripture above was written to believer not to musicians, in fact to the church in a large city. In here all were encourage to practicing the act of singing psalms as a modality to be filled of the spirit. He was not writing to singers there.  That means you don’t have to be a professional singer before you can be involved in singing psalm. The beauty of this is that the melody comes from the recreated heart.  A psalmist a song and a poem writer, but the truth is you are a better psalmist if you know how to sing. And the ministry is seen obviously in a singer/musician.
You can add if you have any info as touching this. Bless you.

FIVE TIPS TO BE A BETTER SINGER

Is it true that there are born singers? Every good singer you have ever seen is a product of influence. Influence in this case is the discipline they have allowed to affect themselves .
Five tips that will help you be a better singer:

Be inspired:
Locate an artist with your voice range that inspires you. You need good singers that can provoke you. Look around you, there are a lot of people that can inspire you. It could be a singer you know in you church or even for a foreign singer that the CDs are readily available. Even in the midst of it, don’t settle for the less. Be provoked.
As for me I started with Marvin Sapp though now I have variety of other good singers I rehearse with but I tell you I still come back to Marvin over and over. The first time I heard marvin sang, I simply said I could do that. Be provoked.

Discipline:
There are some things you have to refrain from. Refrain from fibrous, oily foods and cold drinks that can affect you vocal cord.  And even if you must take some of this food, it has to be with caution and drinking enough water (a little warm is okay). This is to avoid fibers and oily food substance from depositing on the voice cord.

Listening:
Be a good and patient listener. If you are hearing a song for the first time, It is good to listen to it over and over again. Don’t be proud, take your time and listen. In fact, I recommend listen to a song for at least ten times before even try to sing along. As you listen you may browse through the lyrics of the songs.

Personal Rehearsals:
Practice singing every line of the song you have been listening to. Sing every line the way the singer sang it. Try not to add your own or even remove. Do it the way the person did it. Copy and rehearse any attitude find in the song. You might need to lock yourself in a place that can absorb you noise or go into the wood/bush like I did.
To boost the singing ability, I will advice you should join a choir. This is not necessarily compulsory as not everybody will be a chorister.

Find a Coach:
Identify a coach. Some may say this is optional but it is better. It makes your learning faster. Find someone that can take you by the hand. I recommend the singer who you find to inspire you, if such is accessible.
Lastly, don’t ever give up. Consistency, persistency and being insistent are keys to any success.
Hope this help?
